TMZ is reporting that Kanye West has filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records and EMI Publishing.
Two lawsuits were filed on Friday (1/25) against Roc-A-Fella Records and EMI April Music. The suit alleges that Kanye signed an exclusive recording agreement with the company and is seeking monies owed from the label.
In a second lawsuit against EMI Publishing, Kanye claims that in 2003, before his debut album College Dropout dropped, he undertook a contract with EMI Publishing that would allow him to produce music for other artists.
Ye alleges that he wrote over 200 songs by the end of 2011 and that he presented those songs to EMI Publishing. He further claims to have a dispute with the same company and is requesting a judge grant him the right to essentially collect royalties.
Kanye has enlisted the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan to represent him in the case.
